on Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7
without the need to turn off User Account Control (UAC) or Protected Mode.
The WinVNKey NT edition it works well on older Windows versions such as XP,
Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, and Windows NT.
The
software is available for download from http://winvnkey.sf.net:
(a)

Although this package can be installed on Vista,
Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, it will not offer all WinVNKey

install (a) to get all the functionalities of WinVNKey.

How to install?
Group
A
Download
the zip file of interest, unzip it, then right click on the file setup.exe
and choose menu "Run as administrator" to install. The WinVNKey
package for Vista requires
·
Windows
Installer 3.1
·
NET
Framework 3.5
If
your Vista/2008 system does not have any of these packages, WinVNKey setup
will ask you for permission to download and install. Of course you
should answer "yes" to install these missing packages. But
the install process will fail later because you have no write permission in
system folders. To avoid this and save time, you should follow these
steps:
·
Answer
no to cancel the current installation process.
·
Turn
off UAC (User Account Control) so that you can write in system folders:
- Start
| "Control Panel" | "User Accounts and Family Safety" |
"User Accounts" | "Turn User Account Control on or off"
| Uncheck checkbox "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect
your computer".
- Click
OK and restart your Vista system.
·
Now
repeat the installation process:
- Right
click on setup.exe choose menu "Run as administrator" to install.
- If
asked for permission to install Windows 3.1 or .NET Framework 3.5, answer
yes to proceed.
- After
installation is completed, you can turn on UAC to protect your computer
because WinVNKey can work well even with UAC enabled.

All
packages 3, 4, 5 are functionally equivalent. All packages 6, 7, 8
are functionally equivalent. Thus you should download only one
package. Normally, you should download an exe package because it
supports automatic installation. However, the automatic installation
sometimes fails on certain Windows XP or Vista computers. In this case
you can download the corresponding zip package, unzip it, and click on the
file winvnkey.exe to run. The 7z package is similar to the zip package but
its size is the smallest. It can be unzipped with the 7-zip utility
(download from www.7-zip.org).
Check
after installation
Once
installation is complete, you can run WinVNKey and browse the installation
directory:
WinVNKey | Run | Open folder | WinVNKey Install Folder
This
will bring up Windows Explorer with the right panel showing the
installation directory. If you install package 1, 3, 4, or 5, you will
see a HanNom folder, which contains all Han/Nom databases and subfolders. If
you install package 2, 6, 7, or 8, you will not see a HanNom folder.
That's the only difference between these packages.
If
you install package 2, 6, 7, or 8, and later want Han/Nom support, all you
need to do is copy the entire HanNom folder from another installation that
has Han/Nom support (i.e., copy from another computer). Or you can
download package 1, 3, 4, or 5 and install on top of the current
installation.
